Through the coastal fortresses of Boka Bay

East of the mountain Orjen, near to the village of Crkvice, is located the fortress Straznik, which is also the starting point of this tour. Built in the 19th century, during the Austro-Hungarian period in Boka Bay, it has a recognizable appearance of its builders: a predominantly stone massif on three levels and a loophole. Not far from Straznik, there is the fortress Kom, which was built in the period between 1882-1883, with the same purpose as the previous fortress. After visiting these fortifications, tour stops at 1277 meters above sea level, more precisely at the place Velji Vrh (peak), also the highest peak of the mountain Orjen in the far east. This trail is characterized by the alternation of pine forests, serpentines and rocky karst, especially on the final ascent to Velj Vrh. Towards the eastern slope of Veli Vrh, only 3 km from it, are fortresses Ober and Under, which are part of the so-called coastal fortresses of Boka. With an ascent of 380 m and a total length of 14 km this tour is characterized as moderately demanding.
